Cubierta de The Devils, la esperadísima nueva novela de Joe Abercrombie

Para mayo del año que viene se espera la publicación de la nueva novela de Joe Abercrombie, con un sugerente título, The Devils.

Esta es la sinopsis:

Europe stares into the abyss.

Plague and famine stalk the land, monsters lurk in every shadow and greedy princes care for nothing but their own ambitions. Only one thing is certain: the elves will come again, and they will eat everyone.

Cubierta y sinopsis de Titanchild

Talonsister fue una de mis mejores lecturas del año pasado, así que espero con impaciencia la publicación de Titanchild, su continuación, anunciada para el 26 de noviembre por Titan Books.

Para ir abriendo el apetito, os traigo la sinopsis:

The Othanim have conquered Brittletain. Their murderous leader, Icaraine, plans to feed Brittletain’s queens to her monstrous son. But total victory over the Othanim’s ancient enemy, the griffins, still eludes her. If Brittletain’s resistance can secure an alliance with the griffins, they may still stand a chance of defeating the Othanim.

Envoy Kaeto has returned to the Imperium, hiding Felldir and Belise in a ruined castle. He believes both his friends and his attempt to murder Gynid Tyleigh have escaped the Empress’s notice. Yet secrets are not so easy to keep in the Imperium. Kaeto will do anything to protect Felldir and Belise – and so finds himself en route to Brittletain as ambassador to the Othanim.

Leven, Cillian, and Ynis have spent the last two years tracking Ynis’s griffin sister, T’rook, a prisoner of Gynid Tyleigh. But Ynis has secondary motives for pursuing Tyleigh. Meanwhile, Leven’s health is deteriorating, and Cillian – exiled and disgraced – is tormented by strange voices, who tell him of the return of the mythic Green Man to Brittletain.

El verano en que llegaron los lobos

Entre proclamarse ganadora del premio Gran Angular y la nominación a los premios Kelvin, El verano en que llegaron los lobos venía con la vitola de buena novela y me alegra constatar que se trata de una gran novela juvenil.

El libro está narrado en primera persona, a través de los ojos de Ana, una joven que pasa el que espera será su último verano en el pueblo, ansiando ser admitida en la universidad. Y es que Ana no termina de encajar en este lugar, ya que ella es un ciervo y la gran mayoría de los habitantes son bandadas de pájaros.

Con esta metáfora que parece a la vez tan simple pero que Patricia García-Rojo utiliza de forma perfecta, se aúna la parte fantástica de la novela y la parte realista, ya que comparar las distintas personalidades de los habitantes del pueblo con el animal en que se transformar da mucho juego, pero sobre todo sirve para exponer los temas de fondo la novela: ¿cómo encontrar tu lugar en un mundo en el que parece que no encajas?

Afortunadamente, esta elemento fantástico no es un pegote añadido para “fantasizar” la novela, si no que está inextricablemente unido a la historia. Si además tenemos en cuenta que Ana deberá resolver un misterioso asesinato e investigar los milagros que supuestamente suceden en el pueblo, tenemos el caldo de cultivo perfecto para una historia intrigante y atractiva, con una longitud perfecta para lo que quiere narrar y un ritmo envidiable. Virtudes todas ellas indispensables en un libro juvenil, que requiere atrapar al lector desde un principio para que no se distraiga con los cientos de pasatiempos que tenemos a nuestra disposición.

Pero que su público objetivo sea juvenil no desmerece la lectura desde una perspectiva más madura, ya que despertará recuerdos del pasado creo que en casi todos nosotros, porque todos hemos sufrido las inseguridades que conlleva el paso a la vida adulta, cuando todavía no somos lo suficientemente maduros pero debemos afrontar decisiones que decidirán nuestro futuro. Esto está muy bien reflejado también en la novela, junto con otros temas de calado como la aceptación del extraño, la amistad y la camaradería.

Un libro totalmente recomendable.

Anunciada una nueva novela de Fonda Lee

En esta casa somos muy fans de Fonda Lee, así que ha caído estupendamente la noticia bomba de su nueva novela, Breath of the Dragon escrita a cuatro manos con Shannon Lee, la hija de Bruce Lee. La novela se publicará en enero del año que viene.
