Tor.com publicará una duología de Tobi Ogundiran

Tor.com ha anunciado la publicación de dos novelas cortas de Tobi Ogundiran. La primera se titulará In the Shadow of the Fall y la serie Guardian of the Gods. A Tobi lo conocimos por su relato en Africa Risen.

Esta es la sinopsis:

Ashâke is an acolyte in the temple of Ifa, waiting for the day she becomes a full priest and can go out into the world to serve her orisha. But there is just one problem.

The orisha have refused to speak to her. Not for lack of trying. She’s watched her peers enter the Inner Sanctum—where they’re chosen and bestowed favor by the orisha—and emerge as full priests. She’s endured the jeers and ridicule of younger acolytes, she’s suffered the pity of the senior priests, she’s wallowed in self-pity. No more.

In her desperation, Ashâke builds a device to trap an orisha—any orisha. But when she performs the Rite of Summoning, she experiences a vision so terrible it destroys the device in a blaze of fire, draws the attention of a powerful enemy sect, and thrusts Ashâke into the center of cascading events that will shatter the very foundations of her world.

Being an intern at One Wizard sounds magical on the page, but in practice mostly means getting yelled at by senior mages and angry clients who’ve been turned into platypuses alike. So when Journeyman Wen receives a frantic call from a young man who’s awoken to a talisman on his bedroom wall and no memory of how it got there, they jump at the chance to escape call center duty and actually help someone for once.

But the case ends up being more complicated than Wen could ever have anticipated. Their client has been possessed by a demon prince from Hell, and he’s not interested in leaving…

Anunciada la publicación de Lost Ark Dreaming

Tor.com publicará en 2024 Lost Ark Dreaming, una novela corta de ciencia ficción climática escrita por Suyi Davies Okungbowa.

Off the coast of West Africa, decades after the dangerous rise of the Atlantic Ocean, the region’s survivors are crowded into the Fingers—five partially submerged, kilometers-high towers originally designed as a playground for the wealthy. Now the towers’ most affluent rule from their perch on the topmost floors while the rest are crammed into the dark, fetid floors that now lie below sea level.

There are also those who were left behind for dead, only to be reawakened by an ancient power. They are Yemoja’s Children, and they seek retribution from those who offered them up to the waves.

Three lives within the Fingers are pulled to the fore of this conflict: Yekini, an earnest, mid-level rookie analyst; Tuoyo, an undersea mechanic mourning tremendous loss; and Ngozi, a narcissistic bureaucrat from the highest levels of governance. They will need to work together if there is to be any hope of a future worth living—for everyone.

Anunciada la adquisición de Between Dragons and their Wrath

Orbit ha anunciado la adquisición de Between Dragons and their Wrath, una nueva fantasía épica de la australiana Devin Madson. Se trata del primer libro de una trilogía que llevará por nombre The Shattered Kingdom. El libro se publicará el año que viene.

Naili es la lavandera de un alquimista excéntrico, un trabajo que le ha otorgado extraños poderes y ha puesto precio a su cabeza. Cuando se une al submundo urbano, deberá escoger entre mantener su magia en secreto o cambiar el mundo.

Y en las desoladas Montañas Escudo, el caballero del dragón francotirador Ashadi protege las ciudades de los monstruos de más allá de la Arena, pero cuando un tiro imposible atraviesa las escamas de su dragón, el mismo se convertirá en presa.

Conforme la guerra avanza por el territorio, Tesha, Naili y Ashadi deberán sobrevivir a sus enemigos políticos, a secretos largo tiempo ocultos y a monstruos externos e internos.
